DLR pitch

Our draft for the redesign of the German Center for Aerospace (DLR: Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt) was tendered as part of a non-public invitation by the DLR.

The aim of our strategy was to expand the reach of the website and especially to make it interesting to a young target group. Because of the DLR’s magnificent photo archives, we placed these motifs at the center of our design. In so doing, we graphically evoked the fascination of space on a large scale and offered an emotional entry point into this topic. The large dimensions of the images now make it possible to show a research result or a mission description at the pictorial level and in detail. Apart from that, the page structure features layering. Unfortunately, the request for tender from the DLR was revoked.

Corporate website

In 2012 we implemented the website relaunch for Diakonisches Werk Hamburg. Since then we have handled the continuous maintenance and further development. 2014 a mobile version was added.

The website is very user-friendly and its language is easy to understand. The target groups include not only people who are directly looking for advice and help but also users with specialized background knowledge and interested members of the public.

An important component is an address database that features more than 1,200 entries. It can be used to look for appropriate offers of help, for example, or available nursing home spaces in the vicinity.

Escrow Server

The Escrow Server: our secure data exchange platform. Since 2011, Hoffmann und Campe Corporate Publishing has been using the server as a virtual custodian for the secure, traceable and data security-compliant exchange of data.

The company uses the Escrow Server, for example, for the transfer of customer data to Hoffmann und Campe Corporate Publishing and for the transmission of shipping instructions to lettershops.

Hochschulranking

Coinciding with the publication of the print edition of the ZEIT study guide, every year ZEIT ONLINE launches a new version of the CHE college ranking database. The ranking evaluates the quality of research and teaching at colleges as well as faculty development based on various criteria.

A variety of search approaches, such as by major, place of study and/or the user’s own compilation of evaluation criteria, give users the ability to create a customized overview of the various study programs and colleges.

These individual views are put together from a wide range of separate data. This results in high demands being placed on the visualization of these modules, which must have the ability to be combined in every possible way. We developed the initial programming and, together with scientists from the CHE and journalists from ZEIT, revise the backend for the new release every year. The search function is a core feature of the college ranking, and a great deal of attention is paid to it. It was implemented using Lucene.

In 2013, we optimized the college ranking website for display on smartphones.

U-Multirank

U-Multirank is a new multidimensional, user-driven approach to international ranking of higher education institutions. The dimensions it includes are teaching and learning, research, knowledge transfer, international orientation and regional engagement. Based on empirical data U-Multirank will compare institutions with similar institutional profiles and allow users to develop personalised rankings by selecting indicators in terms of their own preferences.

European Commission is funding the project for the next two years. A first ranking will be published in early 2014 covering at least 500 higher education institutions from Europe and beyond. It will provide an institutional ranking of whole institutions as well as field-based rankings for engineering, business and physics. After 2014 the coverage of institutions and fields will be extended progressively.

Folge 3 is a partner in an international consortium to develop U-Multirank. We were responsible to deliver the brand strategy, the logo and the webtool.
